The Fulbright Scholarship is a highly competitive, merit-based grant for international exchange students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists who wish to study, conduct research, or exercise their talents legally in the United States. The program aims to promote cultural and intellectual exchange between the United States and other countries.
The Fulbright Program provides approximately 8,000 grants each year.
Fulbright Scholarship Program for students
Every year, a group of carefully selected non-US students are chosen to study at a prestigious US university thanks to a Fulbright grant. Candidates must comply with a series of requirements if they want to be in with a chance of soliciting the grant:
- Be a citizen in one of the 155 countries where Fulbright operates.
- Possess a university degree qualification.
- Have a good level of English demonstrated through a series of official tests such as the TOELF or the IELTS
- Depending on the type of study that you want to undertake, the results of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) must also be presented.
The duration of the Fulbright Scholarship is between 10 to 12 months, with the option to renew for another 12 months after the initial period. The successful scholarship students can therefore enjoy living in America for a significant time.
The Fulbright grant awards €1500 per month and a further €2000 for travel and living expenses to successful candidates. The program also provides the participants health and accident insurance.
The next window to apply for a Fulbright scholarship to study a Masters or undertake a doctorate in the United States is scheduled to open between January and February 2014.
